reconstructing the neanderthal genome
Now that the
Human Genome Project has been completed, it's time for
Neanderthal's genetic code to be reconstructed.
The project, which involves isolating genetic fragments from fossils of the prehistoric beings who originally inhabited Europe, is being carried out at the Leipzig-based institute.
I've always been incredibly curious about our Neanderthal cousins and since the Human Genome Project was such a startling and revealing research project, I'm really excited to find out what secrets will be unlocked from this project. Their
disappearance from the planet at the time when our own species was coming into its own has always kind of haunted me.
